What is the Instructional Division?
Instructional Division is for boys and girls in grades K-1. In this Division basic skills are taught to introduce the sport to the players. The Division meets one day a week for an hour and there are no other practices during the week. The first few weeks incorporate basic skills like dribbling, passing and shooting. After a few weeks, the practices are split into one half practice and one half scrimmages with other teams. ALL sessions are held at SBA on Saturday morning.
When are games played for the Lower, Middle and Upper Divisions?
Most of the games are played on Saturdays. Some weeknight games will also be scheduled throughout the season as needed. In the event of snow days or other school closings, games are made up during weeknights.
Where are games played for Lower, Middle and Upper Divisions?
Depending on gym availability, most games are played as follows:
Lower Division - Susan B Anthony (SBA)
Middle Division - Veterans Middle School (VMS)
Upper Division - North Arlington High School (NAHS)
When should I expect to hear from someone after I register?
Due to gym availability, player evaluations will not take place until after Fall recess. (Please keep an eye out for an email letting you know when evaluations will take place.) Teams will be drafted immediately after evaluations are completed and you should hear from your child's coach by late November / early December.
What are evaluations?
Players will come to a session at the gym where their basic skills (dribbling, shooting, passing, etc.) will be evaluated. These evaluations take place in an effort to help produce teams that are balanced and fair.
When are practices?
For Lower, Middle and Upper Division, practices are scheduled during weeknights and are based on gym and coach’s availability. Practices can fall anywhere from 5pm until around 10pm with the younger divisions usually having the earlier time slots. Rec practices will be 1-2 times per week.
Where are practices held?
For Lower, Middle and Upper Divisions, practices are mainly held at Roosevelt, Washington and SBA with Veterans Middle School sometimes reserved for travel practice.
Why haven't I heard from my child's coach?
Please be sure to download the SportsEngine app. This is where all team communications take place as well as real-time conversations and scheduling. The app is an integral tool that parents must utilize during the season.
When do practices and games start?
For Lower, Middle and Upper Divisions, practices usually begin in late November to early December. Games normally begin in January after the holiday break.
